FHPS Summer Academy

Forest Hills Public Schools Community Services is offering over 50 different Summer Academy classes for students ages Pre-K through Grade 12. Classes are in session from June 18 – August 9, at Northern Trails 5/6.  Some of the classes offered are:  Science Myth Busters, Chemistry Concoctions, Dance Camp, Horse Camp, Seung-ni Fitness, Mandarin Chinese, and  many more! Forest Hills Summer Day Camp!!

Forest Hills Summer Day Camp will begin at Northern Trails 5/6 building on Monday, June 11.  Full or half days are available starting at 6:45 a.m. and running until 6:15 p.m. with a flexible schedule allowing use of as few or as many weeks as needed. Our fun, experienced staff is excited about spending their summer laughing and learning with and entertaining your kids as well as teaching them some exciting new games, crafts, sports and other activities.

Distracted Driving Awareness Video Contest

On April 26 the Kent County Sheriff’s Department awarded the winners of the Distracted Driving Awareness Program.

The campaign challenges high school students at 22 schools to create public service announcements to encourage people against texting and driving. The students created merchandise designs, billboard designs, along with radio and TV ads.

The winning merchandise will be mass produced, while the winning audio and video will be broadcast on local radio and television stations. The top billboard will be on US-31 near Port Sheldon Road.

The presentation was at Northview High School in Grand Rapids. Sponsors include Kool Toyota, Lamar Outdoor Advertising, and FOX 17.

The winning TV ad was created by Mark VanBruggen from Forest Hills Eastern High School and will air periodically on FOX 17. It features two little girls in a toy car race when one of them crashes because she is texting and driving. Check out the link below:

FH Classic Raises Over $2000 for Juvenile Diabetes

The Forest Hills Northern baseball team doubled their goal by raising over $2000 for Juvenile Diabetes.  Saturday’s annual Forest Hills Classic Baseball tournament, hosted by FHN at the Huskies field, was a big success.  Juvenile Diabetes hits home with FHN baseball, as 2 players, Senior Nathan Krikke, and JV Sophomore Johnny Cotts, have JD.

Northern Coach Dane Wysocki has always wanted to do an event such as this, to give back to the community.  “I was always impressed with the Lowell Pink Arrow Football game, and the Forest Hills Eastern Military Appreciation Day,” he said, “and, I have always wanted to do something to give back the fact that we have players and coaches and parents on our team associated with juvenile diabetes, which makes it more personal.” Read more

Dr. Zulema Moret Visiting NT Spanish Immersion Students

Dr. Zulema Moret, a published Spanish children’s author and Grand Valley State University professor, will be working with Northern Trails 5/6 Spanish   Immersion students on Tuesday, May 8.  Presentations will all occur in Spanish.
