Alumni & Friends Database
As part of our ongoing commitment to communicating with the Goodwillie family at large, we are bringing back our annual whole school newsletter, titled Inside Out. The primary purpose of this newsletter is to keep alumni and their families apprised of what is currently happening at Goodwillie Environmental School. Each issue will include a phenology entry from a 5th & 6th grader as well as several articles highlighting the wonderful things students are doing. In addition, it is a chance for Goodwillie alumni to reminisce about the good ol’ days at GES.

Welcome to Goodwillie Environmental 5/6 School!
Welcome to Goodwillie Environmental School located within the Forest Hills School District, one of our Nation’s great public school systems! This summer we have been busy working on a new website which we are pleased to unveil to you.
We invite you to explore our new site and learn more about the district and what makes Goodwillie so unique. The new site offers many exciting facts, figures, features and new functionality: A new Interactive Google Calendar for both the District and our school, thus enabling you to add either calendar to your other calendars; School Directories are now embedded Google Docs making it easy for you to access information; Search functionality; new Google Maps enable you to get walking, biking and driving directions to school with real-time traffic updates; Local Weather Forecasts; District-wide and school specific news updates; many news updates made in real time by members of our teaching staff; compatibility with all browsers-iPads, iPhones, and most Smart Phone devices; and a Twitter News Alert System which will enable you to receive school closing and delay news to your favorite mobile device.
We hope you find this website to be a useful resource for information – whether you are a prospective family, parent, student, or a community stakeholder. Like all websites, you will be able to find lots of information, interesting news and facts, and helpful tools. However, even with the best modern technology has to offer, sometimes there is no substitute for a human connection. We invite you to visit our main office, email us, or contact our main office number at (616) 493-8633 where we will be happy to help you.
Thank you for your interest in and your support of Goodwillie Environmental School.
Sincerely,
Greg Shubel
Principal

Once Upon a Time
“Once Upon a Time…” Once Again
Do you remember Tiny Tim? How about seeing a sixth grader don a bushy beard and march on stage as the Ghost of Christmas Present? Who could forget working on stage crew or helping build the set? Remember rehearsing the music with Mr. McCargar and the thrill of performing for your family?
All of your favorite characters, beautiful songs, and inspiring narrations returned to the stage and entertained again as GES performed A Christmas Carol, adapted by Eloise Johnson, now in its eighth year as a GES tradition.
It was performed on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium at Central High School. It was wonderful and the students did a great job.
In mid-January, students will be making maps with Kevin Finney and Tom Woodruff. Later in the month, they will be doing bird drawings with Tom as well.
From the Archive: Goodwillie Environmental School Featured in National Magazine
Our school was showcased a couple of years ago in Time for Kids, a weekly publication distributed to school children around the United States. The magazine features several of our students on the cover and in the main article as part of the publication’s coverage for Earth Day 2006 (April 22nd). Phenology, green schools, artist-in-residence projects, and other topics are discussed in the article. We invite you to download it and see our students and school in action
