Welcome to Forest Hills Central!

Forest Hills Central High School has long been rated as a top performer in the areas of academic excellence, fine arts, and athletics. This is due to the exceptional accomplishments of our students, staff, and parents. Our reputation for academic excellence continues to thrive and lead Kent County and all of West Michigan. Our 1357 students in grades nine through twelve are taught by proven instructors, 80% of whom hold at least a master’s degree. For the second year in a row, based on multiple criteria, Grand Rapids Magazine ranked the Forest Hills Schools as the number one district in Kent County.

Why has our school been so successful? The answer lies in the spirit of cooperation and the partnerships formed between our school, the community, and the parents and students of Forest Hills Central High School. Please contact us if you have specific questions or comments and we will be happy to assist you.

Senior Parents: Help is Needed

We need your help!

It is that time of year when the planning really gets underway for all of the events that will transpire during your child’s senior year.

With this in mind, parent involvement is needed for the seniors’ all-night party directly following graduation on Wednesday, May 21, 2012. This optional and traditional event provides a safe and fun environment for our seniors to celebrate following their graduation ceremony at Sunshine Community Church.  It is organized and run entirely by parents (not affiliated with the PTO.)

Start off on the Right Foot

As fall quickly approaches, so does the inevitability of project deadlines, college applications, tests and quizzes, as well as the need to balance a hectic schedule.

Here are some tips to help you start your school year off on the right note:

FYI Work hard this year to establish a high GPA your 9th grade year. Remember, the general rule of thumb is that a GPA rises much harder than it falls. Colleges are really looking at your GPA, especially during the 10th and 11th grade years.

Look for help when things get rough.

Don’t be afraid to come to your respective counselor if you are in need of a tutor for a class(es). We have options within FHE as well as within the community. If you’re having academic difficulty in a class, first think about these options:

1. Ask questions of the teacher.

2. Utilize online tutorials.

3. Keep yourself organized and try various learning strategies.

4. Think about forming your own study group with other students.

COLLEGE ADMISSIONS TIPS

FACT : Looking at college applications now will help you see what you can and cannot fill out on the application thus defining where your weakness is with that respective college.

Words of Wisdom

• Start marketing yourself for colleges through enrichment opportunities.

• A lot of college may recalculate your GPA starting in 10th grade

• Colleges like to see extracurricular experiences that include leadership, especially if it’s outside of the school.

• Volunteer experience should align with an intended college major/ career pathway.

• Take advantage of every opportunity to meet college reps. in the future

HINT: They are in on the admissions process.
