Welcome to Ada Vista!
Welcome to Ada Vista located within the Forest Hills School District, one of our Nation’s great public school systems! This summer we have been busy working on a new website which we are pleased to unveil to you.
We invite you to explore our new site and learn more about the district and what makes Ada Vista so unique. The new site offers many exciting facts, figures, features and new functionality: A new Interactive Google Calendar for both the District and our school, thus enabling you to add either calendar to your other calendars; School Directories are now embedded Google Docs making it easy for you to access information; Search functionality; new Google Maps enable you to get walking, biking and driving directions to school with real-time traffic updates; Local Weather Forecasts; District-wide and school specific news updates; many news updates made in real time by members of our teaching staff; compatibility with all browsers-iPads, iPhones, and most Smart Phone devices; and a Twitter News Alert System which will enable you to receive school closing and delay news to your favorite mobile device.
We hope you find this website to be a useful resource for information – whether you are a prospective family, parent, student, or a community stakeholder. Like all websites, you will be able to find lots of information, interesting news and facts, and helpful tools. However, even with the best modern technology has to offer, sometimes there is no substitute for a human connection. We invite you to visit our main office, email us, or contact our main office number at (616) 493-8970 where we will be happy to help you.
Thank you for your interest in and your support of Ada Vista.
Sincerely,
Sr. Jesús Santillán

News Week Beginning 2/13/12
Hola queridas familias de Ada Vista,
This has been a short week for me because I was in Columbus, OH Monday and Tuesday attending the 2012 National Reading Recovery Conference. The conference was a great opportunity for me to learn more about best instructional practices in the area of early literacy and administration and implementation of reading recovery programs.
Being around other educators from all over the country, and hearing about what other schools are doing, really made me realize how lucky we are at Ada Vista. We have excellent teachers and consultants who are very familiar with best practices when it comes to teaching and learning. We have very dedicated educators who are always looking for ways to reach more children and achieve a higher level of academic achievement. I don’t think we celebrate this enough, and trust me, we have enough reasons to celebrate!!! Please let your teacher/s know how much you appreciate him/her the next time you see him/her J
¡Feliz fin de semana!
Jesús Santillán

Spanish Immersion Preschool 2012-2013
The Spanish Immersion Preschool is relocating to Ada Vista Elementary. Registration for Forest Hills residents begins on Tuesday, January 10, 2012. Non-residents may register beginning April 16, 2012, dependent on space available. Currently, there is a three-year old morning program for children turning three before September 1, 2012. There are two four-year old programs; one morning and one afternoon, for children turning four by December 1, 2012. All programs meet five days a week. Please contact Nancy Bailey at the Forest Hills Child Care Office at 493-8787 for further information.
Book Collection for Sibley Elementary
New and used books (in English or Spanish) will be collected at Valentine’s Day parties, the book fair, and throughout the month of February for the “Bingo for Books” event at Sibley on March 8th. Please place books in the bins around school. Mark March 8th on your calendars from 4-6pm. There will be opportunities for Ada Vista families to partner with a Sibley family in Bingo, to help kids choose books, pass out refreshments, or just mingle. Please plan to join the fun and make the connection between our schools come alive for your kids.

Wednesday Morning Reminder
We would like to continue being a good neighbor to our friends at Ada Christian Church but need your help. They have an activity in the church on Wednesday mornings and need us to avoid using the parking spots in the row directly across from their front entrance. Please call our office if you have any questions at 493-8970.
Early Dismissal (1:05 p.m.) on February 24, 2012
This is a friendly reminder that students will be dismissed two hours earlier due to staff professional development. The result is that your child’s after school routine will begin two hours earlier. Buses will provide normal service beginning at 1:05 p.m. Parent pick-up will begin at 1:05 rather than 3:05. Students will be sent to buses or Parent Pick-Up as usual. If there are any changes to the routine, your written note or phone call to our office (493-8970) before 11:00 a.m. on 2/24/12 will be appreciated. Our building becomes very busy during the time leading up to dismissal and we may not be able to properly convey your message. We appreciate your cooperation. (Aftercare programs will be available at their usual locations to enrolled students. If you have questions about Aftercare programs, please call them at 493-8787.)
Ada Vista Roller Skating Party
Come strap on a pair of roller skates and have some fun with other Ada Vista families at our first annual roller skating party. We are gathering on March 15 from 6-8pm at Woodland Skating Center. The cost is $4.50 which includes entrance and rental of a pair of roller skates. If roller blading is you or your child’s style, they may be rented for an additional $2.00. There is no need to RSVP; just show up and have fun.
