 April 2012

 Dear Ada Families,

Ada Elementary is a wonderful place for your child(ren) to learn and grow. Listen and watch as you travel the hallways of our school and you will observe many fantastic activities taking place. We are proud of the excellent education that we provide our students, as indicated by our outstanding MEAP scores. Recently, Ada has also been recognized for several other honors that we’d love to share with you. Each of these awards is another indicator that here at Ada, we are dedicated to providing the best possible education for our students!

2012 Green School award—Ada received the highest award level – an Evergreen level certificate – from Kent ISD and Kent County for participation in the Green Schools program.  Our students learn about caring for the Earth, participate in recycling, and help beautify the school grounds each spring.

Energy Star Rating—Ada earned the EPA’s Energy Star for using 35% less energy and generating 35% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than similar buildings across the nation.

Healthier US School Challenge—Our school achieved the Bronze Award for promoting healthier foods in our cafeteria and encouraging students to live full and active lives. We want all of our students to have long, healthy lives!

As the calendar turns to April, we are excited about the many fun activities we have planned for you and your family. You won’t want to miss any of these!

Ada’s Musical is a celebration of the learning our first through fourth graders have made in music this year. Miss D’Arcangelis, our talented music teacher, has worked hard to prepare students for their spring musical. Please invite family and friends to enjoy a great night of music on April 17 from 7:00-8:15 at the Fine Arts Center.

Odyssey of the Mind—Ada’s You Make the Call team will be competing at the state competition on Saturday, April 21, at Davenport College. We wish our team good luck!

Kindergarten Round-Up is the time when we meet with parents of incoming kindergarteners to share what Ada has to offer their child. We will meet with parents on the evening of April 26 from 6:30-7:45. Visitation for students and their parents will be held May 15. Visitation times will be scheduled at Round-Up.

Walk with the Dogs is Ada’s yearly fundraising event. Ada’s students will walk through the village of Ada to the fire station and back to school on Friday, May 11 (rain date May 18). Students look forward to this fun day every year. Money raised from this fundraiser is used to provide supplies for instruction, technology, field trips, cultural arts, and more!

Thank you for the support you give us each and every day. We are so glad to celebrate our learning and have some fun with YOU, our partners in education!
